Raven Steals the Moon
Along the northwest coast, sacred myths were passed down through the
generations by storytellers and portrayed by special performers like
this Tlingit dancer, acting out the legend of how Raven stole the
constellations from a chief who kept them hidden away in three wooden
boxes. He is wearing a valuable Chilkat robe that is made from woven
wool and tree bark that has the pictorial story depicted in the weaving.
He is also wearing the mask of the raven. The stone is Utah Alabaster.
